Simple Chipotle Sofritas recipe is delicious, and is a delicious copycat from the recipe that was originally created! The flavor is delicious and spicy, but not too much. These are the perfect accompaniment to burritos, tacos, or even burritos. Sofritas was the very first protein that was vegan or vegetarian. When it has been introduced at Chipotle’s West Coast locations, I had been waiting eagerly for it to be delivered to my where I live on the East Coast. I’m pleased to report that, in my opinion, at minimum, it was the expectations I had when it arrived in Baltimore. It was sweet, juicy, and full of flavor, it was a great ingredient for the vegetarian burrito.
What’s the point of trying to replicate the Sofritas recipe at home in the event that the original taste amazing? In case you don’t know, Chipotle is a fast-food chain serving burritos tacos as well as burrito bowls, and salads. The customer chooses a protein and then selects from a variety of vegetables and beans salsa along with various condiments. In the past, the only choice that vegans could choose was to omit the protein entirely and, naturally, exclude cheese or sour cream. Today, Chipotle offers tofu Sofritas recipes that are delicious!
What is Sofritas recipe?
I think many users are aware of the spicy tofu that is ground up or shredded and is cooked in a peppery tomatoey sauce.
In general, according to our friend on the internet, “sofrito is often referred to as Sofregit. reformado or Soffritto is a sauce that is utilized as a base for Latin American, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese cooking. The preparation methods may vary however, typically it is made up of aromatic components that are broken into smaller pieces that are cooked or braised using cooking oils. “
What’s In Sofritas recipe?
Main ingredient.
- Chipotle peppers.
- Poblanos roasted.
- Garlic.
- Salsa (shortcut ingredient to give us tomatoes, onions, and rockstar taste)
- Cilantro
All the major flavor components are combined into sucker punch sauce. It is sprinkled all over your browned, crumbled tofu. The entire dish is simmered gently into delicious sweetness.
How do you prepare Easy Chipotle Sofritas?
Prepare your tofu first. Then, you’ll prepare it in the same manner as I did for the recipe below. Hui Hui Chicken recipe, and if you’d like to take a look at pictures of the process, you’ll be able to look it up. (PLUS the full recipe is on the recipe card.) Simply make your tofu flat, cut it and then cut it into chunks. Cover it with a tablespoon of oil, cornstarch, and salt then bake it at 400 degrees for about 25 minutes. When it’s baked then chop it further and keep it in a separate place. This creates crisp, chewy tofu pieces which are delicious.
- In the blender or food processor mix the poblano chili pepper with chipotle peppers Adobo sauce, approximately half of the water, or broth, onions garlic, tomato paste vinegar, soy sauce, and nutritional yeast if desired. Process until it is completely smooth.
- Incorporate the sauce in a large saucepan or skillet together with the chopped tofu that has been fried. Bring the sauce to a mild boil and then lower the temperature to medium.
- Incorporate the remaining broth or water, salt, and approximately half the spice mix. Then cover the pan and cook for 5-7 minutes.
- Check for seasoning, and add salt and/or additional spice mix according to your preference. Stir, cover, and cook for 5 additional minutes, or until all the liquid has been absorbed and the raw garlic and onion flavor disappears.
- Take a bite of a burrito bowl or any other place that has Mexican-inspired flavors!
Instructions
- 1 poblano pepper
- Three chipotle peppers in a single can in the adobo sauce (1 for medium/light 3 for extremely spicy)
- 2 teaspoons Adobo sauce.
- 2-3 cloves garlic
- 2 teaspoons cumin
- 1 tablespoon chili powder, or smoked the paprika
- 1 cup of your most-loved salsa
- 2 tablespoons oil from canola
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 14-ounce package extra-firm tofu
Press the tofu. Wrap the tofu block in newspaper towels. Set a pan or plate over the wrapped tofu. Then, place two heavy books over it. The tofu should be pressed for over 20 mins. (You could skip this step if purchase the super firm version.)
Preheat the oven at 400 degrees F and then line an oven surface with parchment.
Cut the tofu into around 6 pieces. After that, you can rip each slice into medium-sized pieces. You could also slice them in cubes should you wish, however cutting gives the tofu an excellent texture.
Put the pieces of tofu into the ziplock bag of a large size, together with cornstarch, olive oil, and salt. Seal the bag and shake the bag gently to cover. Place the tofu in an even layer on the pan that you prepared and bake for about 25 minutes.
While the tofu is baking while it bakes, prepare the sauce. In a food processor (or blender) add the chipotle pepper Adobo sauce and garlic, tomato paste, lemon juice sugar, salt, and 1/4 cup of water. Blend until smooth. Set aside.
After the tofu has finished baking, cut it into smaller pieces using the help of a big knife. Set aside.
The sauce should be added to the pan in a large pot and cooked for around 2 minutes, constantly stirring. Then add the tofu chopped in the pan, and stir until it is coated. Pour in another 1/4 to 1/2 cups of water, to give it slightly creamy, just like chipotles is.
Serve in burrito bowls, burritos, tacos, or salads as desired. Enjoy!
Ways To Eat Sofritas recipe
The Sofritas recipe is a great show-stopper. However, don’t stop there.
- Bowls that consist of pinto beans, fresh rice, and guac. And, If you’re feeling fancy, maybe some tomatoes and corn as well as sauteed bell peppers?
- Tacos! With similar.
- Burritos, like so.

Roast your poblano. Hold the poblano by the flame of your gas stove until it’s blistery and hot. Alternately, turn your oven on to broil setting, brush the poblano with olive oil place it on a baking pan and cook for 15 minutes or so until it’s blistered and soft.
Make a sauce for Sofritas: Poblano, chipotles garlic as well spices as well as salsa, in a small food processor or blender. Blend until a smooth paste is formed.
To make the Sofritas tofu, Cut the tofu in slices and press it using a towel to get rid of the excess moisture you can (the less dry the tofu is will be, the more it soaks in its sauce).
